Case Studies

UNIVERSAL HOMES

Award-winning Universal Homes is one of New Zealand’s most highly regarded home building companies. The company began in the 1960s, focusing on designing and building attractive, affordable houses for first-time buyers. Today, Universal Homes celebrates over 55 years of building thousands of quality, outstanding value homes in New Zealand and is committed to continued innovation, design excellence, value for money and future proof building solutions.

Universal initially engaged Word Sense to help on an on-going basis with the company’s external communications – text for media releases, newsletters and Universal’s website. More recently, however, we have assisted Universal Homes senior managers to produce polished commercial proposal documents within tight timeframes.

“When we began working with Word Sense in 2005, we were looking for a communications company that would understand our business, be pro-active and easy to work with, and write clear, professional text that delivers results. Word Sense achieved all of this from the outset and their work remains impressive. I have no hesitation in recommending them to other companies.”

- Mike Pearce, Sales Manager, Universal Homes

ENVIROTECH MAINTENANCE

Envirotech Maintenance, an Auckland-based grounds maintenance company, used our writing services for several successful tender submissions and expressions of interest for long-term local government contracts. Owners Lou and Karen Kiss were seeking to win and re-win more local body contracts and came to Word Sense looking for specialist tender writing services. One of the most exciting projects with this client was helping to prepare a comprehensive non-price attribute section for a valuable Auckland Council contract, requiring in-depth responses on a wide range of topics.

“The council raved about our submission – its outstanding quality and depth – they just could not praise it highly enough... the Word Sense team made us aware of the aspects of our service that set us far apart from our competitors. Their experience in writing non-price attributes for tenders and other business proposals means they know the right questions to ask, to bring out all the benefits we have to offer our clients.

Their questioning and eye for detail brings out information that we don’t always think about including – because we take our skills and high service levels for granted. Word Sense makes a huge difference to the strength of our submissions.”

- Karen and Lou Kiss, Directors, Envirotech Maintenance Ltd

MARINER7

Mariner7 designs software that makes it easier for organisations to bring out the best in their people. Its on-line performance management tool enables employees to take ownership of their performance goals, measures and targets throughout the year, not only at annual review time. Its powerful, friendly and easy-to-use software can be customised to suit the requirements of each part of a business and brings about fast results.

Mariner7 Directors Brian Shaw and Lester Sharpe wanted to provide prospective clients with examples of how the company’s performance management products and services were being used by real customers to overcome real challenges. They came to Word Sense in 2009 seeking help to produce their first in-depth case study.

A trusting, professional relationship has developed over the past several years as we have sensitively interviewed some of Mariner7’s most important clients in the course of writing authentic case studies from their customers’ perspectives. These documents are published on the Mariner7 website and form part of the company’s marketing material.

Director Brian Shaw commented after our most recent case-study project: “We are really pleased … and it has been brilliant in a couple of pitches we are involved in at the moment. We really value the work you do on these for us and we are lining up a couple more to do…”
